Shanxi boosts social security system

North China's Shanxi province has established a fully functional social security system with more residents benefiting from the improved services. 

From 2012 to 2021, the number of people covered by basic pension insurance, unemployment insurance and work-related injury insurance in the province increased from 21.31 million, 3.91 million and 5.30 million respectively to 26.53 million, 5.04 million and 6.4 million.

Over 95 percent of residents in the province are covered by basic pension insurance and basic medical insurance.

A classified social assistance system has been established and improved in the region.

The province has established a dynamic surveying and assistance mechanism for its low-income population. What's more, it has boosted its senior citizen care service system and included the construction of day care centers for older residents and urban community senior care projects within government work affairs. 

The protection of minors has continued to expand. The province has included more than 5,000 orphans and 5,700 de facto unsupported children within the scope of basic living security. Actions such as surgery for orphans and disabled children, treatment of sick and disabled orphans and educational assistance for unsupported children have been carried out.

Care and assistance for people with disabilities in employment has been improved and public infrastructure renovation has been enhanced. During 2021, Shanxi helped 68,000 people with disability assistance and conducted rescue and rehabilitation services for children with disabilities.

As for the employment sector, the province has conducted large-scale vocational skill training to boost employment. Between 2018 and 2021, it offered more than 5.59 million vocational skill training opportunities to locals. Moreover, the employment structure in the province has been optimized and the employment situation has been made stable.
