Province calls for industrial transfers
The delegation to the ongoing National People's Congress (NPC) from North China's Shanxi province recently called for industrial transfers to the southeast of the province, which is said to provide a major economic boost to the region.
Shanxi's NPC delegates made the request for national support for the construction of a national-level demonstration zone for industrial transfers there, through a joint motion submitted during the annual session of the 13th NPC in Beijing from March 5 to 11.
According to the Shanxi deputies, the southeastern part of Shanxi, which includes the cities of Changzhi and Jincheng, has obvious advantages in terms of location and efficient transport, productive industrial bases, lower costs and attractive business environment.
With convenient rail transport services accessible to the Yangtze River Delta and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, southeastern Shanxi is said to have a great industrial foundation. Moreover, it has built new energy vehicles clusters – as well as LED, semiconductor and optoelectronic industries with complete support facilities and industrial supply chains.
The region is also known for its abundant human resources and low labor costs. Coal, coalbed methane and other energy resources are rich and easily obtained there, which can effectively reduce the costs of enterprises.
There are two national development zones and 14 provincial development zones in southeastern Shanxi. What's more, the further system reform of the development zones, the reform of administrative examinations and approvals, as well as faster construction of sample plots and factories are viewed as having created a more favorable business environment for investors.
The view of the Shanxi delegates reportedly is that the construction of a national-level demonstration zone for industrial transfers in southeastern Shanxi would create a co-development effect with the Shanxi-Shaanxi-Henan Yellow River Triangle National Industrial Transfer Demonstration Zone, and help Shanxi thrive in Central China.
