Grassroots deputy devoted to urban drainage system improvement
Updated: 2022-03-03
Wang Runmei, a deputy to the National People's Congress (NPC) and a worker at the Second Institute of Road Drainage Guarantee of the Taiyuan Public Facilities Construction Management Center, has recently been surveying issues of most concern for the public and formulating proposals for the NPC.
Wang's working group has a total of 11 people responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of more than 10,000 sewer wells under more than 100 streets across Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province.
This is Wang's 29th year clearing waterways and her 10th year as an NPC deputy.
Over the past decade, she has written dozens of suggestions to improve people's living standards, including suggestions to reduce water pollution, build a smart city, and improve community elderly care services. She investigates at the grassroots level and makes proposals accordingly at the NPC every year.
During this year's NPC session, Wang will make proposals related to the diversion of rain and sewage in old urban communities after collecting ideas from her colleagues, community residents and experts over the past year.
