Couples in Taiyuan flock to wed on 'day of love'

Many brides and grooms in Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, rushed to tie the knot on Feb 22, one of China's most "loving" dates – because the 22/02/22 has a raft of twos, which symbolize pairs and sound like the word love in Chinese.

For the newlyweds, it's the best day of the current year for love and marks the new beginning of happy life.

The civil affairs bureau of local Xiaodian district, for one, was well prepared for the special day and occasion.

Marriage registrations were done both online and through on-site appointments. The bureau's staff members extended their service times to meet the needs of the couples, while keeping on strict alert with their novel coronavirus epidemic prevention and control measures.

By 7 pm that day, the bureau had issued 216 marriage licenses to the happy couples.
