Straw-plaited Olympic mascots arrive in Beijing
Updated: 2022-01-20
A pair of straw-plaited mascots for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics — Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon — were transported to the Olympic Village in Beijing from Shanxi province recently.
A group of folk artisans skilled in straw plaiting in Shanxi's Linfen city spent a month making the pieces to convey blessings and good wishes for the upcoming Games.
About 1,200 meters of braids made of corn husks were used with traditional weaving techniques.
