Shanxi forms modern industrial system

North China's Shanxi province has been constructing a modern industrial system to support high-quality development.

As a major energy province, Shanxi has promoted the development of new energy and accelerated the construction of a clean, low-carbon, safe, efficient and modern energy system.

From January to November 2021, the province's electricity generation totaled 346.38 billion kilowatt-hours, 16.87 percent of which was new energy power generation, which totaled 58.47 billion kWh, an increase of 58.76 percent year-on-year. The utilization rate of new energy remained above 97 percent.

The province has been promoting the transformation and upgrading of basic industries by promoting the integrated application of 5G + industrial internet, accelerating smart mining development, building digital factories and smart workshops, and implementing energy consumption control in the steel, chemical, coking, non-ferrous, and building materials industries.

Shanxi has advanced the growth of strategic emerging industries by focusing on innovation. 

From January to November 2021, the added value of industrial strategic emerging industries increased 22.1 percent year-on-year. 

The IT application innovation, big data, and semiconductor industries grew rapidly. A total of 34,000 5G base stations have been built in the province and 16 coal mines have access to the 5G network.

In addition, Shanxi has focused on improving the quality and efficiency of the service industry.

In the first three quarters of 2021, the added value of the tertiary industry was 758.98 billion yuan ($119.27 billion), accounting for nearly half of the province's GDP during the period. 

The added value of information transmission, software and information technology services increased 12.5 percent year-on-year, the real estate industry increased 12.3 percent year-on-year, and the culture, sports and entertainment increased 12.6 percent year-on-year.
