North China's Shanxi province signed a memorandum of friendship with Daegu, the third largest city in South Korea, on Oct 27.
The memorandum was signed online by Shanxi governor Lan Fo'an and Kwon Young-jin, mayor of Daegu Metropolitan City, during the 2021 China-Korea Friendship City Forum.
Co-hosted by Daegu city and the South Korea-China Sister Cities Association, the event was held online and offline in Daegu.
It focused on exchanges and cooperation between the Chinese and South Korean local governments in commerce, culture and tourism, novel coronavirus epidemic prevention in the post-pandemic era, as well as mutual learning and common development between cities.
Lan Fo'an gave a briefing online on the socioeconomic development in Shanxi during the forum. He said in recent years the province had deepened its exchanges with South Korea in the fields of commerce and trade, culture and tourism, the environment, energy and personnel exchanges.
Lan said the two sides had worked together to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
Shanxi is willing to further deepen its friendly exchanges, as well as to promote pragmatic cooperation and people-to-people bonds with Daegu, Lan added.
Under the memorandum, the two sides will carry out exchanges and cooperation in the fields of commerce and trade, energy, education, tourism and the development of industrial parks.
