The Shanxi Department of Culture and Tourism and the Shanxi Radio and Television Station jointly organized 12 demonstration activities in scenic areas in Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, on Sept 27.

It marked the beginning of public cultural activities celebrating the National Day holiday from Oct 1 to 7 in Shanxi.

The activities focus on celebrating the centenary of the Communist Party of China and the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. 

Shanxi's latest local operas, songs, dances, folk arts, acrobatics, and magic will be staged to give tourists a deeper understanding of Shanxi culture.

During the seven-day holiday, over 500 free opera performances will be held at around 100 tourist attractions across the province.
