A nameplate unveiling ceremony for 12 new laboratories was held on April 27 in Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province.

The 12 laboratories focus on fields such as optical storage, semiconductor information devices and systems, artificial intelligence and information technology, IT application safety, satellite remote sensing, functional food, comprehensive potato application research and vinegar fermentation science and engineering.

Lou Yangsheng, Party secretary of Shanxi province, said that the establishment of 12 laboratories is another important measure and a phased achievement in creating a first-class innovation environment in the province. Shanxi has attached more importance to technological innovation and talent support than ever before to facilitate local transformation and development.

Lou has required the labs to focus on the needs of transformation and development, adjust and optimize innovation resources, explore frontiers and unknown areas of science and technology, innovate scientific research systems and mechanisms and continue to improve independent innovation capabilities. The labs should also strengthen scientific research cooperation and enhance the talent introduction mechanism.

He said that Shanxi would continue to increase investment in scientific and technological research and development and improve the salaries of scientific research personnel to stimulate innovation and creativity.
