Tourist train Y661 operated by China Railway Taiyuan Group Co on April 22 departed Taiyuan city – capital of North China's Shanxi province – bound for Wuxiang county, administered by Changzhi city, once a vital revolutionary area in the southeastern part of the province.

It is Shanxi's first customized special train for hands-on, inquiry-based learning this year.

The train, with interior decorations themed on historical sites with a revolutionary legacy in the Taihang Mountains, carried 2,000 students from Shanxi Experimental Secondary School to Wuxiangdong Railway Station.

To make the journey more interesting, the train's staff members explained to the students the revolutionary history and stories of Wuxiang county, while performing their duties.

The students visited the Eighth Route Army Taihang Memorial Hall and Eighth Route Army Cultural Park, receiving patriotism education.

Wuxiang county was the headquarters of the Eighth Route Army and it was where many generations of proletarian revolutionaries fought and lived for a long time, making it an important, national-level county for red tourism.
