North China's Shanxi province will accelerate the development of prefabricated buildings and promote the transformation and upgrading of the construction industry in the current year, according to a statement made by Shanxi Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development on April 5.

The province will reportedly speed up the implementation of prefabricated construction projects and encourage more high-quality prefabricated residential projects.

It will carry out follow-up services and guidance in a timely fashion for projects that meet implementation conditions for prefabricated buildings, as well as help strengthen the management of these projects.

Last year, the province started construction of prefabricated buildings covering 8.23 million square meters of floorspace, accounting for 18.7 percent of the total of newly built buildings in urban areas.

Shanxi has also identified 21 prefabricated construction industrial bases that have greatly improved the design, production and construction levels of local prefabricated buildings.
