Shanxi province's members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) recently submitted joint proposals to the CPPCC National Committee.

The recommendations suggest supporting the construction of a national intelligent manufacturing innovation center and an advanced stainless steel innovation center in Shanxi.

Despite significant progress in the smart manufacturing industry's development, there are still problems such as weak core technologies, an insufficient supply of standard technologies, inadequate R&D investment, and a low degree of industrialization and marketization of research results.

Major problems such as insufficient R&D investment, slow progress in intelligent and green production processes, low labor productivity and low corporate profits have restricted the development of China's stainless steel industry. However, there have been many internationally leading proprietary technologies created in the industry.

Thus, accelerating the development of the intelligent manufacturing and stainless steel industries is of great strategic significance to upgrading the traditional manufacturing industry, improving the production technology of Chinese stainless steel enterprises, and strengthening China's competitiveness in related international markets.

Shanxi started constructing provincial manufacturing innovation centers in 2018, with 14 provincial manufacturing innovation centers now established. This has helped the province accumulate rich experience and laid a solid foundation for developing national innovation centers.

In particular, Shanxi Intelligent Manufacturing Innovation Center has transformed into a national-level intelligent manufacturing innovation center. The advanced stainless steel sector has also been prepared for the establishment of a national-level stainless steel innovation center.

The CPPCC National Committee members from Shanxi proposed that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology should provide targeted support and guidance in constructing innovation centers for the intelligent manufacturing and advanced stainless steel industries in Shanxi. This support should come in the form of industrial planning, policy formulation, technical support, talent introduction and financial support.

Correspondingly, Shanxi should also give awards and follow-up support in proportion to the amount of national support for the construction of innovation centers.
