North China's Shanxi province has been developing the land port economy and furthering regional cooperation in 2020 to integrate itself into the development of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). 

Since the regular operation of Shanxi's China-Europe Express freight train services resumed in late February 2020, the province has opened a new route to the major rail freight depot and transshipment and logistics hub at Malaszewicze in Poland. The new route's addition brought the city's regular routes to eight and service destinations to 23 cities in nine countries. 

Together with the international land port groups in Xi'an, Shaanxi province and Zhengzhou, Henan province, Shanxi has established an international industrial alliance with 52 export-oriented enterprise members and strengthened the three logistics hubs' capacity to allocate global resources. 

In late December, Shanxi cooperated with Zhejiang province to launch the Shanxi-Zhejiang freight train service, which adopts rail-sea multimodal transport, opening up a new channel for Shanxi to connect with overseas regions. 

Over the past year, Shanxi has launched 206 China-Europe Express freight trains with 16,928 20-foot equivalent units, transporting 176,900 metric tons of cargo valued at 3.19 billion yuan ($492.77 million). 

The inland province has deepened economic cooperation with the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, Yangtze River Delta region and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Shanxi has also advanced the development of an export-oriented economy by upgrading its logistics industry, expanding inland port functions, improving cargo clearance capabilities and promoting the effective sharing of information.
