Shanxi furthers trials on intelligent transport

North China's Shanxi province recently completed its first experimental highway section for the intelligent vehicle infrastructure cooperative system targeting heavy-duty cargo trucks.
The testing area aims to improve the transportation efficiency of heavy-duty truck formations, expressway services and safe vehicle operation.
Jointly carried out by the government of Yangquan city and Shanxi Transportation Research Institute Group Co, the experimental section of a one-way two-lane road extends 15 kilometers and is located at the Wutai-Yuxian section of the S45 Highway. The testing area covers typical highway scenes such as toll stations, curves, bridges and tunnels.
Two demonstration sub-sections for the intelligent perception of continuous vehicle trajectories and real-time interaction of vehicle-road information and one long downward sub-section for intelligent road perception were built, providing theoretical and technical support for the development of the intelligent vehicle infrastructure cooperative system and autonomous driving in Shanxi.
Completing the experimental highway section is an essential step in the province's mission to advance smart transport development.
Since July 2020, Shanxi Transportation Research Institute Group Co has cooperated with tech leaders such as Baidu Inc, Tongji University and China Mobile to complete the experimental road section's construction.
With the development of the experimental highway section now finished, the company will focus on developing products and equipment concerning intelligent transportation. It will also focus on tackling fundamental tech problems in developing the smart vehicle infrastructure cooperative system and incubating intelligent industries suitable for future transport based on new infrastructure construction.
