North China's Shanxi province sent 5,000 local laborers to work outside the province on Jan 6.

Their destinations are in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Shaanxi and Shandong provinces.

According to Shanxi Department of Resource and Social Security, to tackle the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Shanxi has introduced a series of measures – such as reducing or exempting social insurance burden on companies – to stabilize employment.

From January to November, 457,500 new jobs were created in cities and towns in the province, completing 99.46 percent of the annual target for 2020. The registered unemployment rate in cities and towns in Shanxi was 3.12 percent.

In terms of labor transfer, at the end of October last year, the total number of poor laborers who worked outside Shanxi was 895,500, and the number of migrant workers increased 6.58 percent over 2019.

This year, Shanxi will increase labor transfers. By the end of January 2021, it is estimated that Shanxi will send 27,000 laborers to work outside the province.

Shanxi will also improve the organization of labor transfers to other provinces and improve its labor service brand.
