State Grid Shanxi Electric Power Company recently completed the installation of 37 base stations for the electric BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) network in North China's Shanxi province.

The construction of the electric BDS augmentation network is one of key tasks of the State Grid's new infrastructure construction program.

Since April, the utility company has been applying BeiDou technology to the fields of electric power transport inspections, marketing, infrastructure construction and dispatching and has started the build-out of the new 37 base stations.

The electric BDS augmentation network will provide real-time centimeter-level and post-millimeter-level precision positioning and navigation services, as well as nanosecond-level time services, offering advanced and efficient temporal and spatial information support for all aspects of the power industry.

In the future, the company will use the BDS augmentation network and the BeiDou satellite applications integrated service platform to promote the precise positioning of power poles and towers in Shanxi province.

It will develop large-scale applications of autonomous drone patrols, to effectively ensure the safe and stable operation of the power grid and reliable power supply, as well as support the construction of the energy internet.
