North China's Shanxi province issued a raft of policies and measures on Oct 12 targeting the training, recruitment and nurturing of professionals and individuals with expertise in the new materials industry.

Through targeted discussions and policies, Shanxi will streamline such areas as classifications and identification, position settings, job titles, scientific research project applications, financing, remuneration and service guarantees.

Incentives that target topflight people and experts will be increased.

Organizations undertaking major national special projects and key research and development (R&D) plans that are related to the new materials sector will be amply rewarded.

Their R&D teams will get a grant of up to 1 million yuan ($148,270) -- up from the previous maximum of 600,000 yuan.

New materials-related researchers who enter postdoctoral workstations will each be given a subsidy of 80,000 yuan annually, compared with 30,000 yuan previously and the subsidy period will last two years.

In addition, special allowances -- of 2 million yuan, 1 million yuan and 500,000 yuan -- will be offered to newly elected academicians from Shanxi of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering who are engaged in new materials and those who are newly selected for national talent programs and national young talent programs.
