The Shanxi Communications Administration will establish resource sharing mechanism with China Railway Taiyuan Group Co to fast-track construction of a 5G network along the high-speed railways in North China's Shanxi province, according to administration officials on June 10.

This year, Shanxi plans to build 13,000 5G base stations and the 5G network in prefecture-level urban areas will achieve continuous coverage, officials said.

They said it was imperative to prioritize 5G network coverage along the high-speed railways, which will be the focus of the future construction of intelligent transportation.

In addition, Shanxi aims to achieve full 5G coverage in high-speed railway stations, office buildings and nearby residential areas in the current year.

Cheng Xiandong, chairman of China Railway Taiyuan Group Co, said the company would draft a strategic cooperation agreement, clarify the division of the two sides' responsibilities and fully support the construction of the 5G network.
