A raft of 28 policies and measures for industrial employment implemented by North China's Shanxi province have been successful in boosting employment and increasing poor people's incomes, according to the Shanxi Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development on June 14.

As of the end of May, 872,000 poor laborers in the province were employed on industrial projects, an increase of 54,000 people year on year and those working over half a year accounted for more than 64 percent of the total.

Officials said the province will next consolidate and expand its employment levels and activities to alleviate poverty by giving priority to effective vocational training, labor exports, transportation and social security policies.

Poor laborers who are willing to work, laborers from relocated households and migrant workers back to Shanxi will receive free vocational training and vocational farmer training.

Vocational schools, training institutions and related centers will be guided to carry out market-oriented training for poor laborers and improve their vocational and entrepreneurial skills, so as to help them get jobs or start up their own businesses.

Officials said Shanxi province will make good use of management and service posts being funded by the government to meet the public interest. These jobs include rural sanitation, public security and forest protection posts and officials said positions will be made available to poor laborers and others in need of employment.

In addition, the province will further implement employment and entrepreneurship policies -- including a subsidy policy for migrant workers and guaranteed loans and interest discounts for business startups.
