A research program led by North University of China based in North China's Shanxi province recently gained national recognition.

It was included as a National Key Research and Development Program of China of 2019 in the field of manufacturing basic technology and key components, receiving central government financial support of 7.29 million yuan ($1.03 million).

The National Key Research and Development Program of China in the field of manufacturing basic technology and key components focuses on scientific and technical research into advanced sensors and high-end instruments and meters, as well as improvement of the independent support capacity of heavy mining equipment and new energy equipment to support the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing sector.

With a total funding of 12.29 million yuan, the North University of China's research program on high power density micro-nano energy collector technology and mine equipment intelligent application program was chaired by the university. It was organized together with other two universities, one research institute and two companies, including Soochow University, the NUS (Suzhou) Research Institute and Yangquan Coal Industry Group Co.

The research program was also supported by one national key laboratory, two national engineering centers, seven provincial-level labs or engineering centers, as well as another eight research platforms.

Aimed at realizing real-time operations monitoring and failure warnings for smart coal machine equipment, the North University of China's research program is committed to developing an energy collector which has high energy density and small volume and can be applied to the underground pit vibration environment and building a self-powered and intelligent wireless sensor network with low power consumption.

The research achievements will help avoid safety accidents in production and the loss of production in mine shutdowns and is of great significance to the development of smart mining.
