Mei Lijun started her business of selling huamo, or decorated steamed buns, two years ago in Ruicheng county, North China's Shanxi province.
Mei, 30, learned the skill of making huamo from her grandmother and mother, when she and her husband decided to quit their jobs and return to their hometown about three years ago.
Making huamo is a local custom at traditional Chinese festivals to pray for good things.
"I also learned the skills from the internet and try to mix natural, colorful vegetable juice into the wheat flour to make the product more delectable and healthy," she said. "Some products shaped like various animals also attract lots of young customers."
Mei hopes the traditional culture and skill can be passed on from generation to generation.
