A total of 114 players will represent Shanxi province at the 11th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities of the People's Republic of China, which is being held in Zhengzhou, in central Henan province, on Sept 8-16.
More than 7,000 athletes will compete in 17 sports -- including dragon boat races and ethnic aerobics -- during the eight-day games.
The games have been held every four years since 1982, according to the organizers.
It aims to boost ethnic group cultural exchanges and understanding and enhance the recognition and pride in ethnic group culture.
The Shanxi team, consisting of members from 16 ethnic groups -- including the Hui, Han, Miao, Yi, Manchu and Mongolian ethnic groups -- will compete for medals in eight competitions and in three performance categories.
This is a new record for the number of Shanxi participants and entries.
