The athlete's village for the 2nd National Youth Games in Taiyuan city received its first residents on July 17.

Just south of Shanxi Sports Center -- the main venue of the games – and located in Jinyuan district, the village covers some 16 hectares.

A total of 4.75 billion yuan ($690.09 million) has been invested in constructing  infrastructure facilities over the past two years including apartment buildings, a medical center, a reception center, a volunteer services center and parking lots.

The three-story canteen -- open to athletes 18 hours a day -- seats 3,620 seats in an area of over 12,000 square meters, with the first floor for halal food.

During the 2nd National Youth Games, 11,964 people will check in and 129,363 people will visit the athlete's village.

It will provide athletes with services such as transport, catering, accommodation, security, and property maintenance for more than one month until Aug 20.
