Yuncheng recognized as pioneer in intelligent education
Yuncheng city was recently included on a list of national intelligent education demonstration zones and was honored as the only one from Shanxi province.
The city will explore education modernization and informationization along with the seven other listed districts and cities, including Xiongan New Area in Hebei province, Dongcheng district in Beijing and Guangzhou city in Guangdong province.
Yuncheng government has been carrying out its intelligent education project since 2015 with a total of 1.6 billion yuan ($231.49 million) invested. As a result, a strong government guarantee system for intelligent education has been rolled out.
The local government has so far established long-term partnerships with four universities, three scientific research institutions and more than 30 information technology companies. More than 60 new technologies have been introduced in all the city's schools.
To facilitate an infrastructure support system for the development of intelligent education, Yuncheng has built a municipal education metropolitan area network with cloud platforms connected at the city, county and school levels.
Officials said the local intelligent education cloud platform has been integrated into the national digital education resources public service system.
In addition, the city has developed a wide-ranging applications system for intelligent education – encompassing educational equity, education quality and the development of innovative students.
To promote fairness in education, 69 schools in eight local counties and districts have opened online live classes taught by teachers from leading schools who utilize 239 classrooms with broadcasting facilities, enabling students from remote areas to share teaching resources with those in urban areas.
A total of 132 classes have carried out a range of programs – focusing on such topics as collaborative office automation, artificial intelligence, academic evaluation and analysis, comprehensive quality student evaluation, and physiological psychological data collection -- as explorations continue into improving the quality of education.
To further the development of innovative students, 168 primary and secondary schools have established so-called maker laboratories to carry out experiments and courses in programming, artificial intelligence and STEAM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) and other areas.
