The first Quwo International Vegetable Fair concluded in Quwo county, Shanxi province on May 13, with 40 purchasers and 78 exhibitors from 11 provinces and municipalities earning 20 million yuan ($2.91 million) in sales.

With the goal of expanding trade and cooperation, boosting eco-friendly industries, and promoting rural development, the fair showcased the latest technological achievements in the vegetable industry.

More than 1,000 types of vegetables and fruit were displayed at six exhibition areas throughout the four-day fair, which demonstrated the entire production process for fruits and vegetables.

To improve agricultural production efficiency and increase incomes for farmers, the fair organized lectures and training sessions to teach vegetable farmers better planting techniques.

Around 30 experts and scholars from six scientific research institutes, including the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the China Vegetable Engineering Technology Research Center, discussed the future development of the vegetable industry at a summit during the fair.

Around 200,000 people visited the fair, where 19 projects worth 1.16 billion yuan were signed between companies from nine countries, including Malaysia, and two international organizations, including the European Union.

The vegetable industry is a pillar industry of Quwo county, with vegetable plantations accounting for 40 percent of its total land area and its total output value reaching 1.22 billion yuan. Revenue from vegetable planting accounts for 38 percent of the per capita income of local farmers. The county's mushrooms, garlic, onions, and tomatoes have been exported to a number of countries along the Belt and Road, including Russia, South Korea, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
