Through 200 years of construction – during the reigns of the Kangxi to Guangxu emperors from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) – the Chang Family Manor evolved to become the biggest manor complex in China, covering more than 12 hectares and comprising some 50 buildings and 1,500 rooms.

The Chang Family Manor impresses visitors with its rich history and culture. It is a perfect example of Chinese architecture that integrates residences, gardens, streets, and gatehouses.

The Chang family was one of commercial explorers of the China-Mongolia-Russia Tea Road, a 13,000-kilometer international trade route pioneered and developed by the Shanxi merchants between 1689 and 1929.
