Shanxi Coking Coal Group (山西焦煤集团有限责任公司), China's largest coking coal producer, has a wide variety of top-quality products and ranked 433rd in Fortune 500 rankings in 2017.
The large group, based in Taiyuan, Shanxi province, is mainly engaged in power generation, coal exploitation and processing as well as deals with businesses in mine construction, machinery manufacturing, mechanical and electrical appliances, chemicals, architecture, building materials, transportation, import and export, and tertiary services.
Founded in October 2001, the State-owned enterprise now has 25 subsidiaries and branch companies.
It operates 100 mines with annual production capacity of 174 million metric tons of raw coal, 28 coal-washing plants with capacity of 126 million tons of coal per year, five coking coal factories with production capacity reaching 11.8 million tons per year, and nine coal-fired powerhouses with installed capacity of 3,468 megawatts.
The company has businesses in 29 counties in seven cities in Shanxi, including Taiyuan, Linfen, Yuncheng and Changzhi, and its products are sold in more than 20 domestic provinces and cities. The company is licensed to import and export coke and electromechanical devices, and has a close strategic partnership with Germany's Ruhr Group, Japan's Nippon Steel, South Korea's Pohang, and some 30 Chinese companies such as Baosteel in Shanghai, Ansteel in Anshan and Shougang Group in Beijing.
In 2016, Shanxi Coking Coal Group produced 91.51 million tons of coal and 43.12 million tons of coking coal, generating 169 billion yuan ($24.64 billion) in sales and 7.9 billion yuan in profits. By 2020, the company aims to be producing 200 million tons of coal and to be the largest coking coal company in the world.
