To help promote the national Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Taiyuan University of Technology established a special scholarship program for the BRI and enrolled the first international students in 2015. The scholarship aims to attract and cultivate international talents and professionals from countries and regions along the Belt and Road. 

The scholarship program has no tuition fees, and students will receive 500 yuan per month (paid for 10 months each year) to help with living costs.
