Seabuckthorn -- a shrub native to China and areas of Europe which contains many medicinal compounds -- has become one of the model cash crops in arid regions due to its extraordinary vitality, say enthusiasts. The sour-sweet and refreshing seabuckthorn juice has certain medicinal effects, making it a health drink recognized by the public. Seabuckthorn juice products are regarded as one of the specialties that can be seen in shops and restaurants in Pingyao county in North China's Shanxi province, which is located at the edge of the Loess Plateau.
