Datong experiences tourism surge over Spring Festival

Datong, Shanxi province, witnessed a significant tourism boom during the Spring Festival holiday. The city's six key monitored scenic spots welcomed 966,600 visitors and generated ticket revenue of 24.32 million yuan ($3.34 million). 

The city held six themed events featuring 43 activities, including traditional folk customs, cultural performances, and winter recreational activities. 

Spectators were immersed in traditional folk performances, such as gongs and drums, dragon dances, donkey runs, dry boat dances, and waist drum performances, experiencing authentic Datong folk culture while celebrating the Chinese New Year.

A Datong cultural and tourism bureau representative highlighted efforts to enhance the management of tourism facilities, ensuring more considerate and convenient services. New cultural offerings were introduced, inviting citizens and tourists to savor the festive spirit together. 

Ice and snow tourism emerged as a new attraction, with citizens and tourists enjoying snow viewing, snow entertainment, and skiing throughout the holiday. Ice sculptures, waterfalls, and other attractions also added to the winter fun. 

The city's cultural venues, including libraries and museums, launched activities to meet the diverse needs of visitors. Themed cultural activities organized by counties and districts became popular choices for tourists who wanted to enjoy rural landscapes and experience rural folk customs.
