Datong in Shanxi province will celebrate the Chinese New Year with cultural activities that showcase its unique historical and cultural heritage. 

The Datong bureau of culture and tourism has announced that, starting in the 12th lunar month, the festivities will feature six main themes and 43 local activities. Each theme will be imbued with local flavor and designed to encourage public participation. 

The activities will revolve around traditional cultural festivals such as the Spring and Lantern Festivals. Events will be coordinated across the city and its districts. Highlights include enhancements to urban street scenes, folk performances, and fireworks displays. 

The celebrations will feature a Spring Festival cultural fair, a New Year goods market, and a Datong New Year experience for international friends. 

Ice and snow events and cultural activities will also be held, allowing citizens and tourists to enjoy ice fishing, figure skating, and other winter sports.
