The Datong Ice and Snow Season launched at Wanlong Baideng Mountain International Ski Resort on Dec 7. Known for its rich ice and snow resources and strong winter sports culture, Datong has earned its place as one of China's top sports tourism destinations.

Datong's municipal government has prioritized the ice and snow industry to bolster year-round tourism. The city has hosted national events such as the Youth Games and the Shanxi Provincial Ski Competitions, attracting over 500,000 visitors last year.

This year's opening ceremony marked the start of key initiatives, including the 11th National Mass Ice and Snow Season Shanxi Sub-Venue and the National Family Ice and Snow Day (Datong Station). The 2024-25 Datong Ice and Snow Season will feature 19 competitions and activities, talent showcases, and open skiing tournaments.

Datong's focus on ice sports aims to turn "cold resources" into a "hot economy", driving tourism and economic growth. Participants and visitors are encouraged to explore Datong's rich cultural heritage and vibrant traditions, further promoting the city as an international winter sports destination.
