Datong city provides cool oasis in summer for tourists

Datong in North China's Shanxi province proved to be a popular cool haven for folks in early July, with daytime highs of around 30 C and night temperatures dropping to 15-16 C.

Hordes of tourists from southern regions, like a Mr Huang from Wuhan city in Central Hubei province, praised Datong's refreshing climate, enabling them to enjoy air conditioner-free stays.

Datong, with its historical significance and very appealing geographical features, really stands out for many visitors. Situated at the ideal latitude of 39-40 degrees north and surrounded by mountains, it boasts an ideal humidity of around 50 percent, lush parks and verdant wetlands. Over the years, consistent conservation and remedial environmental efforts have made Datong's air quality the best in Shanxi.

Recently, Datong was named a "2023 Summer Tourism Preferred Destination" by the China Tourism Academy, making it the only city in Shanxi to receive the honor. This recognition is said to highlight Datong's big appeal as a summer escape.

Datong also enchants with its rich history and cultural heritage. Notable sites include the Yungang Grottoes, ancient temples and choice sections of the Great Wall. The city's culinary scene, featuring delicacies like knife-cut noodles and yellow rice cakes, adds to its charm.

With convenient transportation options like high-speed trains and direct flights, Datong is easily accessible. The city's tourism initiatives, including comprehensive tourist routes, ensure visitors can explore its beauty with ease.
