Datong intangible heritage exhibition shows 200 artifacts

The Heritage of Millennia Datong Intangible Heritage Exhibition recently opened at the Datong Art Museum in Datong city – in North China's Shanxi province – showcasing over 50 intangible cultural heritage projects and 200 exquisite pieces.
The exhibition allows residents and visitors to fully experience the charms of Datong's ancient cultural heritage.

Hosted by the Datong municipal bureau of culture and tourism, the event is part of the 2024 Cultural and Natural Heritage Day series. The aim is to promote the protection, inheritance and development of intangible cultural heritage.
The exhibition features a variety of works – including button knotting, rope art, willow weaving, metal wire weaving and paper cutting. Also on show is a grand selection of wood carving, leather carving, brick carving, clay sculptures, dough figurines, silk dolls, butterfly painting, gourd pyrography and straw painting.
The pieces are said to be unique, in so far as the artisans incorporate new materials and innovative techniques, offering a totally fresh perspective.
The exhibition not only highlights the craftsmanship and ingenuity of Datong's intangible heritage practitioners – but also showcases the city's long history, rich cultural heritage and diverse traditional arts.
Datong currently boasts eight national-level intangible heritage items, 50 provincial-level items and 135 municipal-level items.
