Cultural events raise festive mood in Datong city

As the traditional Spring Festival approaches, Datong will organize 171 cultural activities under six major themes, showcasing the city's charm and culture.
The Datong Ancient Capital Lantern Festival, which will run from Feb 8 to March 11, will take place in the Yongtai Gate area, and will feature five main thematic lantern zones with 12 sets of lanterns. Additionally, a "Four Dragons Playing with a Pearl" themed lantern installation will be displayed in Huayan Square, accompanied by a series of cultural activities.
From Feb 12 to 25, the city's main streets and alleys will host lively and festive celebrations through folk art processions and cultural performances.
The Datong Folk Culture Exhibition, which will take place from Feb 22 to 24, will create a vibrant atmosphere in the city. It will showcase the profound cultural heritage of this millennium-old city alongside its modern vitality.
From Feb 12 to 24, at the Guandi Temple's opera stage, Datong's professional art troupes will present a concentrated display of local opera genres.
The city will also host a series of ice and snow events. The Weidu Ice and Snow Carnival will feature ice and snow sculptures, along with recreational facilities such as ski slopes and 100-meter ice slides. The first Manyuan Winter Fishing Festival will allow visitors to experience the joy of ice fishing and camping, while the Wanlong Baideng Mountain International Ski Resort will open its night skiing services.
