The Datong volcanic group scenic area in Datong city was recently recognized as a national 4A-rated tourist attraction, according to an announcement by the Shanxi Department of Culture and Tourism.
The volcanic group not only has important scientific research value, but also incubates unique resources such as geothermal energy and fertile soil, making it a rare geological heritage and popular tourist destination in Shanxi province.
Since its development, the scenic area has been committed to the sustainable development of historical and cultural heritage and original geological relics, based on the natural distribution characteristics of geological relics, ancient villages, and ecological resources within the scenic area.
It has implemented zone-based operations, strict protection, moderate development, scientific restoration, and precise monitoring, integrating the development of natural resources with environmental protection.
In recent years, the scenic area has improved its infrastructure such as a visitor service center, a parking lot and wooden plank roads. Tourism projects such as "taking a hot air balloon ride to view the volcanoes" have been well-received by tourists.
In addition, the scenic area has hosted events and competitions covering hiking, cycling, marathon, hot air balloon rides and music festivals, greatly enhancing its influence and reputation.
