From Sept 29 to the close of business on Oct 6, some 23 A-rated scenic spots in Datong city, North China's Shanxi province, received 1.12 million holiday tourist visits, according to the Datong bureau of culture and tourism.
To effectively handle the high tourist influx, most scenic spots in the city rolled out such measures as online real-name ticket reservations, extending opening hours and regulating entries through time slots.
Rural cultural-themed tour routes were a hit with visitors. Rural attractions like the Datong volcanic group and the Sanggan River wetland attracted throngs of folks.
Many also chose to spend their holidays at libraries, museums and other cultural places which launched special activities.
In addition, quite a few tourists in the city chose to go on a self-drive eight-day Mid-Autumn and National Day adventure.
