In recent days, a camping base in Huangjiapo village, Shagetuo town, Datong city, has been bustling with tourists keen to experience the excitement of modern camping in the countryside.

A 20-hectare sea of sunflowers is truly eye-catching, with white tents surrounding it and red flowers dotted all around. Inside the camping site, the interplay of strip lights and the faint smoke rising from the lawn, along with the warm glow emanating from the tents, create a lively atmosphere.

In response to the rapid growth of rural cultural tourism, Huangjiapo village has embarked on a transformative journey. Three months ago, this trendy and beautiful camping site was a neglected riverbank used by villagers to dump waste, which not only affected the village's appearance, but also polluted the environment.

"The rise of camping has provided us with new ideas for developing rural tourism," said Zhang Lei, head of the village.

The newly-built 0.67-ha camping base in the village offers leisure products such as music concerts and catering, improving tourists' experience while increasing the income of local villagers.

Since the camping base officially opened in early August, it has seen its revenue from camping alone hit 13,000 yuan ($1,788.36) this month.

"Planting sunflowers can bring a net profit of 1,000 yuan to each household, apart from a subsidy of 300 yuan. Villagers can also sell their own agricultural products in the camping area." Zhang added.

Li Junshi, a top official from Shagetuo, said the town will explore the resources of local villages and develop agricultural tourism according to local conditions, further promoting rural prosperity.
