The 10th China Datong Chehe International Organic Agricultural Forum was held in Datong in North China's Shanxi province on Aug 18-20.

The forum was hosted by the Datong municipal government, China Agricultural University, Taiyuan University of Technology, and Shanxi Agricultural University.

Based on the theme of "organic agriculture boosts the construction of beautiful countryside", the forum brought together more than 200 experts, scholars, and other insiders in the field of organic agriculture and rural vitalization from all around the world to discuss the future of agriculture.

The organizing committees of World Rural Revitalization Conference, China Organic Agriculture Conference, and of the forum itself jointly awarded Lingqiu county in Datong city a plaque recognizing its achievements in developing organic agriculture.

The county, together with Yangxian county in Northwest China's Shaanxi province, Wanzai county in East China's Jiangxi province, Xichong county in Southwest China's Sichuan province, and Xiashan district in East China's Shandong province, signed a cooperation agreement on organic agriculture and released the "Declaration of County-level Organic Cooperation Community”.

A national organic product exhibition, a photo exhibition showing a decade of organic agricultural development in Lingqiu county, and another show focusing on county-school collaborative achievements were held during the three-day forum.

Since 2013, Lingqiu county in Datong has viewed the development of organic agriculture as an important path to achieving agricultural modernization. As of now, the county has established organic food production bases covering 2,000 hectares and generated 500 million yuan ($68.79 million) in terms of the output value of organic agriculture.

Furthermore, by integrating organic agriculture with rural and eco-tourism, the county has implemented comprehensive development plans for the villages of Chehe, Chengtouhui, and Biantai. Among these, the per-capita annual income of residents in the Chehe Organic Community has jumped from 2,300 yuan in 2013 to 21,500 yuan as of the end of 2022.

Since 2014, the China Datong Chehe International Organic Agricultural Forum has been held every year based on a specific theme for specialized discussions. It has become a key platform for exchanging cutting-edge theories and technological achievements in the field of organic agriculture.

The Chehe model, and the practices in Lingqiu county, have provided inspiration and references for county-level economic development nationwide.
