China's first hydrogen fuel cell hybrid locomotive has run over 20,000 kilometers on the Jinzhou-Baiyinhua Railway since it was put into operation in October 2021.

This hydrogen-fueled locomotive, developed by CRRC Datong Co based in the city of Datong, North China's Shanxi province, is an achievement in the market-oriented application of hydrogen-power equipment within the country.

Compared with traditional fuel and electric locomotives, the hydrogen fuel cell hybrid locomotive has obvious advantages. One such factor is how well the hybrid locomotive has adapted to operating under varying climates.

Currently, CRRC Datong Co has been advancing their research and development of hydrogen fuel cell hybrid locomotives, improving the locomotive's power and expanding operation platforms according to customer needs and the railway market.
