The 2021 Northern Shanxi Meat Platform Domestic and Abroad Centralized Purchasing and Supply Conference was held in Datong city in North China's Shanxi province on Sept 6.

The conference was co-sponsored by Shanxi Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Shanxi Department of Commerce, Taiyuan Customs, the government of Datong, and Huayuan International Land Port Group.

It aimed to create a platform for direct exchanges, domestic and foreign meat industrial cooperation, and production-marketing matchmaking for suppliers and purchasers, and to fully open up channels for the comprehensive promotion of commodity circulation, logistics, capital flow, and information flow.

Representatives from relevant industrial associations at home and abroad and experts and heads of leading companies in the meat industry gathered to share new ideas on the construction of the Northern Shanxi Meat Platform, and discuss a new vision for economic and trade cooperation in the animal husbandry industry. 

At the conference, six domestic meat product processing companies and 12 meat purchasing and marketing companies signed purchase orders of 60,000 metric tons of imported meat and sales orders of 500 million yuan ($77.55 million) with Huayuan International Land Port Group (Datong).

Datong is located in the internationally recognized golden production zone for herbivorous animals and boasts a long history of animal husbandry development and many other strengths. 

In recent years, the city has strengthened local animal husbandry and made remarkable achievements in developing the Northern Shanxi Meat Platform and Yanmenguan Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Belt. 

In 2020, the output value of animal husbandry reached 6.56 billion yuan, accounting for 48 percent of the city's total agricultural output.
