Datong's Pingcheng district ranks sixth among China's top 100 for specialty foods
Pingcheng district in Datong city, North China's Shanxi province, recently ranked sixth on the list of China's top 100 counties and county-level cities for specialty foods in 2021.
The list was co-published by Insight China magazine and several national government departments and professional organizations.
Datong was the capital of the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534) and the second capital of the Liao (916-1125) and Jin (1115-1234) dynasties. It has many historical sites and rich tourism resources.
Datong's food culture also has a long history, with unique delicacies well-known among foodies.
The laba porridge, millet cake, big head hemp leaf, shaomai, sliced noodles and other specialty foods in Pingcheng district have enriched the lives of Datong people and become a highlight for tourists.
