The fifth session of the 14th Datong Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) opened on Feb 21 in Datong city in northern Shanxi province.

The conference's opening ceremony was attended by 279 political advisers, including Gao Xianghua, chairman of the CPPCC Datong Committee.

Gao delivered the CPPCC Datong Committee's work report, reviewing the committee's and political advisers' efforts and achievements in 2020 and setting out the work plan for 2021.

He said that in 2021, the committee would continue to play a positive role as a specialized political consultation agency and contribute to implementing the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) for Datong.

Yang Suqing, the vice-chairman of the CPPCC Datong Committee, reported on the handling of proposals from more than 330 CPPCC Datong Committee members.

These political advisers have submitted 310 proposals since the fourth session of the 14th CPPCC Datong Committee in April 2020, said Yang.

She added that all submitted proposals were put on record for further discussion. These proposals focused on COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control, poverty alleviation, high-quality economic transformation, people's livelihoods and environmental treatment.
