Datong to vaccinate key groups before Spring Festival

Datong in North China's Shanxi province will offer COVID-19 vaccinations to key groups prior to this year's Spring Festival, which begins on Feb 11, according to Datong Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

People aged between 18 and 59 with a higher risk of infection, including frontline workers at ports, those going abroad for work or study, transport workers and healthcare staff, will be prioritized for vaccination at 35 designated clinics in 10 local counties and districts.

The vaccination involves two shots, administered 14 days apart, with those eligible needing to report their health condition to medical workers before the inoculation. Once a person is vaccinated, they will need to stay at the vaccination site for 30 minutes for medical observation.

Certain groups of people, including pregnant women and patients suffering from acute illness, are not considered suitable for the vaccination.

Those inoculated against COVID-19 still need to wear protective masks, as well as maintain social distancing and good personal hygiene, as no vaccine has an efficacy rate of 100 percent.
