Datong city in North China's Shanxi province held an open ski tournament and ski team trial at the local Baideng Mountain Ski Resort on Jan 2. 

The event targeted young skiers in the city and was sponsored by Datong's sports bureau. It aimed to spark a love of ice and snow sports in young people, improve the level of ski sports and create reserve ski talent.

A total of 94 young skiers participated in the event, which consisted of men's and women's competitions of snowboard parallel giant slalom and giant slalom.

The tournament's outstanding participants will join the city's first youth ski team and be trained by top coaches at home and abroad.
