Established in 1981, Datong Locomotive Industry Co is a SOE-run collective enterprise affiliated to CRRC Datong Co. After more than 20 years of development, it has become a medium-sized industrial enterprise with specialized production and large-scale operations.

The enterprise now has 11 subsidiaries, fixed assets of 56.71 million yuan ($8.23 m) and more than 1,000 sets of equipment. It has advantages in riveting, welding, and mechanical processing, and mainly processes and manufactures electrical accessories, paint, coatings, and labor protection appliances. In recent years, it has pursued diversified development and is now engaged in metallurgy, pressure vessels and other industries.

The locomotive components it produces were assembled on the SS3, SS4, and SS7 series of locomotives, of which the SS7C, SS7D, and SS7E passenger electric engines were the major power units deployed in the third, fourth and fifth speed-up initiatives. In 2005, the company passed the ISO9001-2000 quality management system certification.

The enterprise engages in foreign trade operations directly through the "China Electronic Port" network.
