Updated: 2019-04-18

Dou Bin (1715-1802) was a famous general in the Qing dynasty (1644-1911). He was born in Dongguan, Pingding (now Dongguan village, Guanshan town, Pingding county). Dou was good at army management, and made many achievements in building and consolidating frontier defense and maintaining local security. Dou was a diligent official, loved the people and dedicated his life to the Qing dynasty, and thus was greatly favored by the royal family. After he resigned from office and returned to his hometown, Dou actively revitalized local education, donated money to rehabilitate the Guanshan Academy, and presented a large number of teaching tools. He also built the Yangzhi Pavilion and planted trees in Guanshan.
