Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, will increase the number of Chinese rose and crape myrtle plants in 2021 to further beautify the urban environment.

Over the past few years, Taiyuan has greatly increased the number of flowers and flowering shrubs planted in the urban landscape. It has added foliage along urban roads, in parks and in green spaces to showcase itself as a livable city.

In 2020 alone, the city planted 2.67 million Chinese roses to create a romantic urban atmosphere, according to an announcement from Taiyuan's gardening bureau on May 15.

This year, Taiyuan will further increase the number of Chinese roses in parks and along roads by planting 820,000 such flowers. The city will also introduce and domesticate new flower varieties.
