Taiyuan Railway Station is about 5.3 miles (8.5 kilometers) to South Railway Station, 12 miles (20 kilometers) to Wusu International Airport, 1.9 miles (3 kilometers) to Liuxiang Pedestrian Street (city center) and 3 miles (5 kilometers) to the Twin Pagoda Temple. Opening in 1907, the station is a principal station, which functions as the transportation hub for the railway lines of Datong-Puzhou, Shijiazhaung-Taiyuan, Taiyuan-Jiaozuo, Taiyuan-Zhongwei (Yinchuan), Beijing-Yuanping, and Jiexiu-Xiaoyi.
Upon arriving at the station, passengers can see name of this station in Chinese characters and a big LED screen below it displaying train departure and arrival information. The railway entrance is right below them and in the middle of the terminal building. The exit and left luggage office is to the south of the entrance and the ticket office to the north. There are 15 ticket windows inside the ticket office, with No. 1 for ticket refund and No. 2 for ticket change. Inside the terminal, there are two floors for passengers' use. The first floor is the entrance hall with security checks and ticket checks. The second floor is four waiting rooms, all equipped with food stands, book store, supermarket, mobile phone chargers, televisions, toilets and hot drink water, etc.In front of the building, there is a big square, with bus stops in its front and northwest, taxi stand at its front, and parking lots at its northwest. Surrounding the square, there is a post office, banks, hotels, and restaurants for passengers' convenience.

How to get to other sites from the railway station:
To South Railway Station:
1) Take bus 11 or 861 to get there directly.
2) Take train 4611 (07:24), K7807 (12:17), K1365 (13:36), K961 (13:57), K7833 (15:11), or 4643(17:28) to get there directly. Duration is about 10 minutes and ticket fare for a hard seat is CNY2 or 8.
To airport:
1) Bus 201 can take passengers there directly. It is available from 06:00 to 20:00. Duration is about 45 minutes and ticket fare is CNY2.
2) One can also take the airport shuttle bus line 1 to get there. The bus departs hourly from 06:00 to 09:00 and every 30 minutes from 09:30 to 20:30. Ticket fare is CNY16 and duration is about 30 minutes. The departure location is at Zhongcheng Hotel opposite the railway terminal.
