Classic one-day tour

We recommend that you to start the tour at the West Gate as the most enjoyable way to catch the beauty of this ancient city. It takes about 8 hours to visit all the scenic spots in the following way:

Morning: West Gate City Wall - the county government offices - Leilvtai Old Residence - Confucian Temple - City God Temple – Qingxu Taoist Temple

Noon: Lunch on Mingqing Street

Afternoon: North City Walls - Rishengchang Draft Bank - Mingqing Street – Market Tower

Tips:

1. The shortest way to get to the Shuanglin Temple is through the smaller North Gate, after visiting the county government offices.

2. There are performances at the county government offices at 10:00 am, every day. There are also special activities outside of the North Gate and on the South Street on weekends.

Two-day tour

Route 1: Old City Walls - Rishengchang Draft Bank - Mingqing Street - Shuanglin Temple

You can take a coach to Pingyao, in the morning (2 hours), in the inter-city bus station on Yingze Street and can visit the City Walls, Rishengchang Draft Bank, and Mingqing Street after arriving. The Shuanglin Temple is 7 kilometers from Pingyao and you can get a taxi there in the afternoon, then come back to your hotel in the ancient city.

Route 2: The Grand Courtyard of Wang Family - The Grand Courtyard of Qiao Family

After visiting the Grand Courtyard of Wang Family, in Lingshi county, in the morning, you can take a bus to Qixian county to see the Grand Courtyard of Qiao Family at noon. This is a good place to take pictures, with some amazing entrance screens, folding screens, and festooned gates. Also, the Grand Courtyard of Qiao Family was used for the movie “Raise the Red Lantern”. The bus from Lingshi county to Taiyuan city goes through Qixian. It can take you about an hour to get back to Taiyuan at night.
